Two Days for Marriage

Event Update
December 30, 2009

January 12th Schedule Taking Shape

  • 7:00 am – Doors open at the Iowa Capitol
  • 10:00 am – Governor Culver delivers “Condition of the State” speech
  • 11:00 am – LUV Iowa Supporters talking with Members of the Iowa Legislature
  • 12:00 Noon – Press Conference and Rally on the West Steps of the Capitol

Most days it is possible to enter the Capitol as early as 6:00, but the official hours of operation begin at 7:00.  We are encouraging everyone to come as early as you can, and to stay as long as you are able.

Please make every effort to be inside the capitol no later than 9:30.  While we will not all fit in the gallery for the Governor’s speech, the idea is to make a visible statement when he walks from his office to the House chambers.  Remember – no signs inside the capitol.  This is an opportunity to respectfully request that the Iowa Legislature would “Let Us Vote.”

Bus Parking
December 28, 2009

If your church or organization is planning to bring large vans or busses to the event on January 12th, please call the IFPC Action offices at (515) 263-3495 and leave a message for Dave, or e-mail info@ifpc.org.

We are working on securing enough parking as close to the capitol as possible to accommodate your group.  Knowing in advance how many large vehicles we need to plan for will help avoid confusion and congestion on January 12th.  This information will also help us to determine how many shuttle vehicles we will need to operate between the parking area and the Capitol on that day.

LUV Iowa Launches Legislative Initiative

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LUV Iowa Campaign Launches Legislative Initiative

12/28/09 Pleasant Hill, IA – IFPC Action President, Chuck Hurley, today announced plans to launch an initiative in conjunction with the LUV “Let Us Vote” Iowa campaign.  The initiative, which is being called “Two Days For Marriage,” will kick off with a gathering at the State Capitol on January 12th.

According to Hurley, “People from all over the state have reached out to IFPC Action, and joined the LUV Iowa Campaign.  On January 12th, we are encouraging those people, and all Iowans who care about preserving marriage and the constitutional separation of powers, to come together to take a stand, and once again ask Iowa lawmakers to ‘Let Us Vote’ on the Iowa Marriage Amendment.”

The concept behind “Two Days For Marriage” involves Iowans attending the large gathering on January 12th, and then giving one additional day during the legislative session to lobby for passage of the Iowa Marriage Amendment. Hurley said, “We plan to send a very clear message on January 12th that we intend to exercise our right to vote on the definition of marriage, and then follow up on that message with a consistent presence at the Capitol all session long.”

January 12th is the date when Governor Culver is scheduled to deliver his annual Condition of the State address.  In addition to all 150 State Legislators, the Iowa Supreme Court Justices also attend the speech. The Governor’s speech is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am, and citizens are permitted to begin entering the Capitol as early as 6:00 am.

Hurley said, “We will be encouraging people to come as early as possible, and to stay as long as they can.” He concluded with, “We expect the Members of the Iowa Legislature to listen to their constituents and not to stand in the way of our constitutional right to vote on the Iowa Marriage Amendment. Any Member who stands between the people and our right to vote is risking their political future.  We will remember in November.”

LUV Iowa is short for Let Us Vote Iowa, and is a direct response to public requests for help from Iowa citizens as they organize to pass the Iowa Marriage Amendment. As more details concerning the event on January 12th become available, they will be posted on the LUV Iowa web site at www.LUVIowa.com.

LUV Iowa Announces "Two Days For Marriage"
December 22, 2009

The 2010 Iowa Legislative session will gavel in on Monday, January 11th, and it is time to ratchet up our efforts to persuade the Iowa Legislature to let us exercise our Constitutional right to vote on the definition of marriage.

IFPC Action, through the LUV Iowa Campaign, is asking you to become a part of the “Two Days for Marriage” initiative during the 2010 Legislative Session.  The Initiative kicks off January 12th at the Iowa State Capitol.

PLAN NOW TO BE AT THE IOWA CAPITOL ON JANUARY 12, 2010!

Governor Culver is scheduled to give his Condition of the State address to a joint session of the Iowa Legislature on January 12th.  The speech, which is also attended by the Iowa Supreme Court judges, represents a unique opportunity for the people of Iowa to show their support for traditional marriage, and their resolve to see the Iowa Marriage Amendment come to the floor for debate.

JANUARY 12th IS DAY ONE OF THE “TWO DAYS FOR MARRIAGE INITIATIVE”

In addition to the unified show of support we will send on January 12th, we are asking each of you to spend one additional day at the Capitol at some point during the remainder of the legislative session.  Together, our presence at the Capitol will be a daily encouragement to pro-family legislators, and a daily reminder to others that the people of Iowa will not remain silent on the issue of marriage.

We’ll send more information about the January 12th events after Christmas, but please plan NOW to attend.
